How a Wall Mount Power Adapter Works

The working principle of the wall-mounted adapter is to rectify and regulate the input AC power, and convert the output to the direct current required by the equipment, specifically including the following steps:

1） Input and voltage rectification: The power adapter receives alternating current from the socket through a rectifier circuit. The circuit typically contains diodes that convert alternating current into pulsating direct current. In this process, the voltage waveform is "shaved" off the negative half, leaving only the positive half.

2） Filtering: The purpose of this step is to get smooth DC, because the rectified current is pulsating DC, so the filter is needed to remove the AC component of pulsating DC.

3） Voltage regulator: The voltage and current of the direct current are adjusted to the required level by the regulator. Common voltage regulation methods include linear voltage regulation and switching voltage regulation. The linear regulator controls the output voltage by adjusting the resistance. The switching regulator adjusts the amount of energy transferred to the load by rapidly switching the transistor, so as to achieve the purpose of efficient voltage regulation.

4） Output: Finally, the direct current after processing in the above steps is output to the device. Finally, this process will also include some safety protection such as over-voltage protection, over-temperature protection, short circuit protection, etc., in order to prevent damage to the connected equipment during use.
