What is the FCC certification?

Any electronic device marketed or sold in the US must have Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approval. What is FCC, you may ask? Power adapter FCC certification is a mandatory electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) certification implemented by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for power adapter products. And the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent government agency, overseen by the U.S. Congress, responsible for implementing communication laws and regulations throughout America as well as enforcing them. FCC certification is designed to ensure that electronic products do not cause harmful interference to radio communications under normal working conditions, while protecting users from potential electromagnetic radiation hazards from these products.

For manufacturers and suppliers who want to export power adapter, Battery Charger, power supply and other electronic products to the US market, obtaining FCC certification is a necessary condition for entering the market. Manufacturers who wish to sell power adapter in the United States must have their products tested by FCC listed or accredited lab and certified by the FCC for EMC compliance.

 

What is the Process for Obtaining a Certificate?

The process of applying for FCC certification is not complicated. It mainly includes submitting an application form, sending samples for testing, obtaining certification after passing the test, and finally using the FCC logo on the product. The FCC has three different processes under the EMC directive for administering certificate of compliance for electronic devices. The process for authorization is dependent upon device and type and power of emission. They will determine what method of screening your device will need to go through depending upon what type of device you’re trying to manufacture or distribute.

Send the power adapter to a laboratory with FCC certification for testing to ensure that the product meets relevant standards. The samples provided for testing must be formally qualified, their internal electrical structure and appearance must be consistent with the products to be exported, and the trademarks and models on the products must be clear. In order to receive declaration of conformity approval, FCC Part 18 devices must undergo testing in an accredited laboratory in order to measure the levels of radio frequency that are emitted from the product. Products that receive approval must show that they are in compliance with regulations by being stamped with the FCC logo.

3. Certification
The manufacturer provides certain information and measurement data to a telecommunications certification body approved by the FCC and the agency issues an authorization for the equipment. Certification is the hardest FCC approval process to achieve. The type of devices that require a certification have the potential to emit the highest amounts of radio frequency interference and cause the most harm to the public. A certification must be authorized and issued for radio frequency devices by an official Telecommunication Certification Body (TCB). A TCB examines the product's documentation and test results after the product has gone through the required testing.
